Know a place?

We're genetically programmed to avoid places with bad water. So I dig up the dirt on the best and worst coffee around Cape Town and South Africa.
Been somewhere good? Got a new menu? Find DR on Facebook, leave a comment, and I'll don my hat and investigate.

Cappuccino with soy foam R18 (Bean There, Ethiopian origin)
A 100% mild African Arabica topped with a cheese-flavoured soy foam. It takes a few sips to get used to the unusual but not too unpleasant flavour, though I couldn't bring more than 1 a week close to my tastebuds. A flash of tasty bitter punctuates the mild brew, but it's no deal closer.
The filter coffee tastes like young coffee beans rushed to market; quite acidic; a burnt, sappy soylent green, so brace yourself for shudders.
The philosophy of this bean-dealer is to sell products that are grown closer to customers at the expense of popular flavours.
Vegan faire with Woollies soy milk, Himalayan crystal salt shipped in from Pakistan (packed in the local dorp) - all the eco-trendy boxes ticked.
Wooden plaas tables with platteland floor and quite gloomy kombuis decor, closer to Nelspruit than Nirvana.
