Cappuccino with foam and chocolate powder : R12
Mild light roast, overly dilluted.
One of the cheapest cuppuccinos around, but cheapness comes at a price - there's not much flavour. Luckily the hint of coffee under the froth and water is not unpleasant. Add a sugar and leave it to cool slightly and it's like a light hot chocolate.
Eggs Benedict comes with cut toast under the egg (instead of muffins), 2 more toasts, and chips. What they lack in quality they make up for in starch. There's also a tennis-ball sized slab of half-cooked tomato that's unnecessary and flavourless.
Service is a bit flustered and slow, especially when it comes to the bill - the waitress refused to take my money directly, rather I had to go through the tedious process of asking for the bill (5 minutes), waiting for the bill (5 minutes), waiting to collect (5 minutes), waiting for change (5 minutes), so 20 minutes of toe tapping just to pay.
I do think the airy decor is spot on though - bright red and white open plan, gives the impression of cheap fast food, which it sort of delivers; compared to the dark broody spots nearby it stands out. Clever stuff.
